The onsen experience was nice over all! The room had great futons, but the breakfast could use more attention—everything felt ransacked when we got there. 😬

Hotel Kagetsu offers a seamless check-in experience where guests are welcomed in a lounge with tea and snacks, setting a positive tone right away. The room was spacious by Japanese standards and provided a clean and comfortable stay. Its location is advantageous, being within walking distance from the Matsumoto Castle and the city art museum. Breakfast was a highlight, featuring fresh produce with fantastic presentation, making it a memorable culinary experience.
Breakfast staff were unhelpful regarding allergy concerns.

my stay was definitley not worth the price. the rooms were quite small and tired-looking, not up to par for a 4-star establishment. i expected special treatment but instead dealt with outdated facilities and a laughable breakfast spread. i almost gave them a good review but just couldn't. shame on you, Hotel Kagetsu!

Charming stay with delightful hospitality
Upon arrival, I was greeted with a cup of iced green tea and snacks while the staff handled check-in. The room was spacious, cozy, and infused with natural light, ensuring a comfortable retreat after exploring. The perfect location allowed us to stroll to Matsumoto Castle and nearby art galleries within minutes. Breakfast was the highlight with beautifully presented dishes, showcasing quality local ingredients. Their Kaiseki lunch also deserves special mention, as we indulged in extraordinary flavors that perfectly represented Japanese dining.
While the charm of the hotel's Showa Era decor was captivating, certain aspects showed signs of age, particularly the public bath, which felt less inviting due to moderate cleanliness issues. Additionally, the breakfast area became overcrowded, which diminished the experience – it would be helpful to manage the timing of meal slots to avoid rush moments.

We truly enjoyed our stay with mom in Matsumoto. The traditional tatami-style room was comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was a delightful mix of flavors. Exploring Matsumoto Castle so close by was a highlight, and we appreciated the hotel’s warm hospitality from the staff.
In my wife’s opinion, communication about shuttle services could improve.

Charming Atmosphere with Room for Improvement
The hotel has a unique charm with its blend of Japanese and European decor. The staff was exceptionally helpful, especially when I needed assistance with shipping a package. However, the onsen was a bit crowded. A tip, arrive early for a better bathing experience.
